Construction is underway on a Waffle House restaurant at 1510 Thompson Bridge Road in Gainesville.

Other details, including when it is expected to open, weren’t available Thursday, Jan. 31.

Norcross-based Waffle House deferred comment to the franchisee, Hillcrest Foods, and Hillcrest deferred comment to the corporate office.

The project has been in the works for more than a year.

In January 2018, Waffle House spokesman Pat Warner said a November 2018 opening was targeted for the restaurant, which is near Taco Bell and across the street from Walmart Neighborhood Market.

A single-family home was previously on the property, which is zoned neighborhood business, allowing for a restaurant without a drive-thru, Gainesville Planning Manager Matt Tate said.

The property faces Thompson Bridge but is surrounded by homes, including nearby Virginia Circle.

“That’s going to be a great spot, a great location,” said The Norton Agency’s Will Cobb, who sold the lot, in January 2018.
