Northeast Georgia Health System is opening a new bridge on its Braselton campus off Ga. 347/Friendship Road in South Hall.

Navigating Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton gets a little easier starting this morning.

Northeast Georgia Health System is opening a new bridge connecting the hospital to Medical Plaza 1. The entire campus is off Ga. 347/Friendship Road in South Hall.

A dedication ceremony is set for 7:30 a.m. today.

The 30-minute event is so hospital officials can “celebrate this new improvement to the campus and the resulting increase in safety for drivers,” hospital spokeswoman Beth Downs said.

“It will also significantly improve the ability to move between buildings on the campus.”

Previously, visitors having to travel between the 100-bed hospital and Medical Plaza 1, a medical office building home to many hospital services and doctor’s offices, have had to use the six-lane Ga. 347.

The bridge marks the hospital’s first big infrastructure project since opening April 1. It connects to a road that runs in sort of a half-ring around the 119-acre campus.

The hospital sits just west of Ga. 211/Old Winder Highway, another major South Hall artery.

Next up for the campus is a new obstetrics wing that will offer 10 rooms, two suites for cesarean sections, a nursery and reception and waiting areas.

Construction began in May on that project. Downs has said the hospital expects to open the service at the end of 2016 or January 2017.
