Nick Vujicic, 25, from Australia, was born without arms and legs, but has not let that stop him from living his life.

The motivational speaker has traveled to 19 different countries to speak to the people about persevering and God’s purpose for everyone’s lives and to give hope to those who also have disabilities.

"I’m using my life as an encouragement to find victory," said Vujicic. "No matter what there is a greater purpose."

Vujicic was the featured speaker at an event to benefit Our Neighbor Inc. held Saturday night at the Brenau University Amphitheater in Gainesville. The event also featured a musical performance from Chris Wright and Katie Deal Wright.

Next week, Vujicic starts a 10-week tour to countries in Africa and Asia. He plans to educate the people there and give them an awareness of disabilities.

"We have two choices in life: To try or to give up," said Vujicic. "Fear is the greatest disability."

Our Neighbor Inc. is a nonprofit organization in Gainesville devoted to helping young adults born with disabilities.

"Our goal is independent living for people with disabilities of all types, " said Scott Crain, one of the members of the Our Neighbor board of directors. "We help them find houses."

The organization helps those young adults who have special challenges find homes that are specific to their needs.

"We have a fundraiser every year," said Crain.

Last year, the group had a dinner and auction to raise funds for the organization, and they also sell a variety of items such as T-shirts and calenders.

Our Neighbor Inc. held Saturday night’s event to inspire those young adults with special challenges and encourage their lives. A Friday night concert by guitarist Sonny Landreth also benefitted Our Neighbor.

Vujicic will wrap up his visit to Gainesville by speaking to two churches today. He will speak at 9:30 and 11 this morning at Lakewood Baptist Church and at First Baptist Church at 1 p.m.
