Quick work by Gainesville police led to the arrest of a man suspected of robbing a Dawsonville Highway restaurant at gunpoint early Saturday.
Richard Lewis Hicks, 21, of Gainesville was arrested on a charge of armed robbery shortly after a midnight robbery at the Sonic restaurant at 805 Dawsonville Highway, authorities said.
Gainesville Police Lt. John Robertson said witnesses told police that a man wearing a ski mask entered the restaurant and demanded money while pointing a handgun.
The robber fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash toward Shallowford Road.
Within minutes of the 12:10 a.m. call, an officer spotted the suspect walking in the parking lot of a nearby business, Robertson said. The officer stopped the suspect and found a gun and cash while searching him, Robertson said.
No one was injured in the robbery. Hicks remained in the Hall County jail Saturday.
