About 90 citations were issued by Gainesville Police officers Thursday during the first three hours of a traffic operation running through this weekend. Officers patrolled the streets with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety during Operation Thunder, where law enforcement agents are checking for impaired drivers. “A lot of our wrecks now are low-speed wrecks, and we attribute that to the texting and driving,” Gainesville Police Lt. Tommy McElroy said Thursday.
