Officers from city and county law enforcement will gather today at three different locations for casual conversation over coffee with citizens.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office and Gainesville Police are participating in national “Coffee with a Cop,” a day on which thousands of law enforcement agencies spend time with members of the community.

Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chad Mann said the opportunity allows people to connect in a “chill environment.” The events help to build a better relationship with the community and establish lines of communication, the deputy said.

“People far too often let that uniform be a barrier between us and them, and there’s no us and them,” he said. “It’s an us.”

Gainesville Police Chief Carol Martin and officers will also be out around 2 p.m. at the McDonald’s at 965 Dawsonville Highway.

From 6:30-8:30 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office will be at the Longstreet Cafe at 405 Pearl Nix Parkway. After that, deputies will be at the 2010 Limestone Parkway McDonald’s from 9-11 a.m.
