Jefferson woman dies in morning wreck

A Jefferson woman died after a head-on wreck Tuesday morning in Jackson County, according to authorities.

Kimberly Poole, 46, died at the scene of the wreck on U.S. 129 near Pond Fork Church Road.

Georgia State Patrol said Poole was driving southbound before 8 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 129 in a Mitsubishi Outlander.

“For an unknown reason, the Mitsubishi failed to maintain its lane and drove into oncoming traffic, where it hit a northbound Ford F-150, driven by Rachel Bruce, 43, of Talmo, head-on,” state patrol wrote in a news release.

Bruce was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for severe injuries.

Both vehicles suffered “catastrophic damage,” state patrol said.
