Work is expected to begin Wednesday to improve the concrete on both directions of Interstate 985.
The Georgia Department of Transportation said work will begin at I-85/I-985 interchange in Buford and extend all the way into Gainesville.
The work has an estimated five-month timetable for completion, weather-permitting.
The work will replace damaged concrete slabs on I-985.
A combination of daytime and nighttime lane closures are expected. Nighttime lane closures will begin July 6 on the northbound lanes of I-985 between Flowery Branch and Gainesville from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each day, according to a DOT press release.
Georgia Bridge and Concrete LLC of Tucker and Kiewit Infrastructure Southern Company of Peachtree City were awarded the contracts for projects along the road.
