HOSCHTON — Police Chief David Hill has resigned from the Hoschton Police Department to take a job with the Jefferson Police Department, Mayor Bill Copenhaver said Wednesday.

Hill’s resignation is effective May 15, Copenhaver said.

In an e-mail to The Paper, a sister publication to The Times, Hill said he chose to take the Jefferson job because of the opportunity.

"I have worked nine years on trying to give the citizens of Hoschton a well-run, professional, efficient police department that they could count on for any of their law enforcement needs," he wrote. "I have enjoyed every one of those years, but I have entered a crossroad in my life where I need to think about my family and future. Jefferson has given that opportunity as the Major of their police department."

The City Council will discuss plans to appoint an acting police chief at tonight’s work session.

Hill, a veteran law enforcement officer, has been with the Hoschton police for nine years.
