Are you health smart?

Come out Wednesday to the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce's HealthSmart Expo to get up to date on health topics and take advantage of wellness services.

"It's unique because it's not like a typical health fair," said Robyn Lynch, vice president of membership development. "Every booth actually has some sort of interactive activity or educational materials to share."

The expo is set for 1 to 5 p.m. at the Georgia Mountains Center and is free and open to the public.
Services provided at the HealthSmart Expo include blood pressure, diabetes and skin cancer screenings.

A lunch also will be provided before the expo at 11:30 a.m. featuring speaker Barbara Dooley, wife of former University of Georgia football coach and athletic director Vince Dooley.

"The reason we asked her to come and speak to us is because she is a breast cancer survivor, and so with our health focus we thought she would be a great asset to the event," Lynch said.

The lunch costs $15, and those interested can call the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce to reserve a seat.

Companies that have wellness programs will be recognized at the event.

These wellness programs can take on many different forms, whether it's allowing employees time to walk or go the gym during the day of just having healthy choices in vending machines, Lynch said.
Lynch said she also wants to work with local restaurants.

"We're also going to kick off our restaurant challenge," she said. "They will have an ‘I'm HealthSmart' sticker on the door, and also on their menus they'll have little stickers next to the healthy items."

This is the second annual HealthSmart Expo, and Lynch said she is expecting a good turnout.

"Last year we had over 1,000 people attend, so we're encouraged by those numbers," she said.
