On Wednesday, Gainesville-Hall County Animal Control reported the county’s 42nd rabies case of the year.
In a year with more reported cases of the disease than average, the most recent case stems from a confrontation Monday between a raccoon and a domesticated dog in North Hall, according to a news release.
The raccoon, which came into contact with the dog near Hopewell Church Road, tested positive for rabies at the Georgia Public Health Lab — Virology Section in Decatur.
Animal Control will conduct a door-to-door canvass in the area, and advise anyone who lives in the area and sees an animal acting abnormally to contact Animal Control at 770-531-8812.
