Law enforcement needs help from the public to identify a body found in February near Interstate 85 in Banks County.

A skeleton was found Feb. 5 in a wooded area near New Salem Methodist Church on Hwy. 59 in Commerce, which is one mile south of exit 154 for I-85. GBI was requested by the Banks County Sheriff’s Office in this case.

“The date of death is estimated to be up to four years prior to the time of discovery,” the GBI wrote in a news release.

After examination, authorities believe the body belonged to a woman between 30 and 44 years of age of African-American or Hispanic descent. She was between 4 feet 9 inches tall and 5 feet 6 inches tall.

A metal ring and a butterfly necklace charm were found with the body along with blue, purple and gray colored fabrics.
