The Gainesville Police Department is looking to add two new officers.Rather than looking for budget increases to fund the staffing increase, Police Chief Brian Kelly is asking to apply for a statewide grant that would fund two new officers and three police vehicles. “Anytime we’re able to increase our personnel, it’s always important,” Kelly said. In 2010, the department’s staff dropped from 103 to 100 sworn positions due to budget cuts.
