A Gainesville woman on a motorcycle was killed Wednesday night in a Buford wreck, according to Georgia State Patrol.

Anita C. Strickland, 59, was driving a Kawasaki motorcycle westbound around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday on Friendship Road/Ga. 347 in the inside lane. Gary Lee Herndon, 79, of Buford, was heading northbound on B.U. Bowman Drive in a Mercedes Benz.

Herndon did not yield when entering the roadway, and Strickland struck Herndon’s Mercedes on its driver’s side on Friendship Road, according to state patrol.

Strickland was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

“She has always been a fun-loving free spirit, and riding bikes was her life,” wrote Destiny Browning-Hill, whose mother was Strickland’s cousin, in a message to The Times.

State patrol said Herndon would be charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to yield, which are both misdemeanors.

Herndon was not injured in the crash.
