A 41-year-old Forsyth County man was hospitalized Sunday for serious injuries after a boat caught fire on Lake Lanier.

Forsyth County Fire Capt. Jason Shivers said the man, whose name has not been released, suffered second- and third-degree burns to his upper body and arms and legs.

The man was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he was listed Monday in stable condition, Shivers said.

The flames destroyed the 72-foot, two-story yacht, which was beached on an unnamed island when the fire broke out, he said.

Fire and emergency personnel responded about 3:30 p.m. to Long Hollow Park, which Shivers said is near the island.

He said the man was one of nine people on the boat.

Shivers said the fire is under investigation, but does not appear suspicious.

He said there was some confusion initially over whether the incident was in Forsyth or Hall county and personnel from both jurisdictions were directed to the shore.
