Flowery Branch council moves meeting to Friday
City struggling to have required quorum

Flowery Branch City Council is holding its semimonthly meeting on Friday, instead of the usual Thursday, so that it can have enough members to hold a meeting.

The city charter requires three members and the mayor or mayor pro tem for a quorum.

The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday at City Hall, 5517 Main St.

The council, which normally meets at 6 p.m. the first and third Thursday of the month, is struggling with having enough members, given vacancies in the Post 2 and Post 3 seats.

A March 6 special election is set to fill the Post 3 seat, formerly held by Kris Yardley. The council likely will vote Friday to give its final OK to a March 6 special election to fill Post 2, which was held by Chris Fetterman.

Also complicating the situation is Councilwoman Tara Richards' out-of-town training for a six-month deployment to Afghanistan. She said she could leave for deployment in late February or early March.
