Bringing a taste of family recipes to Flowery Branch, Oscar Munoz and his son Oscar Jr. will serve up authentic Mexican cuisine at their upcoming restaurant La Casa Del Taco.
The restaurant will officially open on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 5533 Atlanta Highway in Flowery Branch.
Oscar, co-owner and head chef of La Casa Del Taco, said he had always dreamed of opening his own restaurant since working in French and Italian kitchens in Chicago.
Now that most of his children have reached adulthood, he decided it was time to bring a taste of his native Mexican cuisine to Hall County.
Oscar Jr. said his mother Maria helped develop the dishes for the restaurant, and included some of her family recipes.
“It’s scary sharing our recipes,” he said. “We love them, but us loving them and people liking them is completely different.”
Backing up its namesake, the restaurant will have a variety of tacos including steak and al pastor. The al pastor will be slowly cooked in the spit-grilled style, then sliced off in thin strips with a large knife.
Oscar Jr. said all of the ingredients for the tacos will be grilled, which will provide a healthier option for those wanting to stay away from fried food.
During the morning, La Casa Del Taco will prepare breakfast Mexican food, like burrito and taco dishes that incorporate bacon and eggs.
Oscar Jr. said his favorite menu item at the restaurant is the molcajete, which includes steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, cactus and quesadillas. The ingredients are cooked together in a green salsa.
Despite being 22 years old, Oscar Jr. said he is no stranger to owning a business. Before becoming co-owners of La Casa Del Taco with his dad, he had already started up an Instagram advertisement business.
“My family is full of entrepreneurs, so I was just born with the entrepreneur spirit,” Oscar Jr. said.
La Casa Del Taco will cater to morning and late-night crowds, keeping its doors open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 6 a.m. to 2 a.m., Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday.
With a high ceiling, a wall of windows and succulent plant decorations, Oscar Jr. said his family aims to create a modern style for the restaurant, while still maintaining a welcoming atmosphere.
“We chose the name La Casa Del Taco because we want people to feel like it’s home,” he said. “We want them to feel relaxed, calm, and provide them with good food and a great experience overall.”
