Demolition of old Hall jail ramps up

Metals are sorted for recycling Thursday afternoon at the site of the of the old Hall County jail, which is currently being demolished by a crew from Tristar of America. The site is a key element in Gainesville's midtown redevelopment plans.
Demolition of the former Hall County jail on South Main Street in Gainesville is well underway, and requests for some of the historic bricks are already coming in. Staff reported at Thursday’s Gainesville City Council meeting that some of the bricks have been passed around as souvenirs at city offices. Ward 4 Councilman George Wangemann said one of his constituents requested bricks from the old jail to landscape his yard.
