Da Vinci students honored in 'Rivers of Words' Art and Poetry Contest
Da Vinci Academy

Four Da Vinci Academy students placed in the “Rivers of Words” Art and Poetry Contest. Brisa Delgado, a seventh-grader, was a national finalist for her watercolor painting, “Boiling Point.” In addition, Grace Ryan, Casey Skaggs and Rain Yenici were Georgia winners this year.

The “River of Words Project” is an environmentally-based program designed to help K-12 students understand their sense of place by studying a watershed in their own environment then expressing what they discover through poetry and art. Georgia entries are judged by the Georgia Center for the Book and by the GA Environmental Protection Division.

Only 50 poems and artworks are selected as winners each year in Georgia.

The ROW Journal, a full-color printed booklet, is produced to showcase Georgia honorees. The winning works are also reproduced to become part of a traveling exhibit, hosted by the Georgia center for the publication, which moves to libraries throughout the state. Another exhibit is also available for checkout to schools, nature centers and other educational facilities. The Da Vinci Academy is planning to host the full showcase in October 2018 as part of its “Museum of Inspired Learning.”
