Update: A proposed auto service center in Oakwood was approved by the city’s planning commission Monday and is now headed to the City Council for a vote.
Palmetto Flowery Branch-Winder Highway LLC is applying to build a Firestone Complete Auto Care Center at 3466 Winder Highway. The 1.3-acre site is near the Publix-anchored Robson Crossing shopping center. The property will need to be rezoned from multifamily residential to highway business.
The almost 5,700-square-foot store would have eight service bays and a showroom. The site was cleared about 10 years ago for development but has remained empty.
The City Council will vote on the development at a later time.
A Firestone Complete Auto Care center is proposed off Winder Highway in Oakwood.
Palmetto Braselton-Hancock LLC is set to go before the Oakwood Planning Commission on Monday, Dec. 16, seeking rezoning at 3466 Winder Highway for the project.
The 1.3-acre site next to O’Reilly Auto Parts and near the Publix-anchored Robson Crossing shopping center is now multifamily residential. The applicant is seeking a highway business designation.
The nearly 5,700-square-foot Firestone would feature eight service bays and a customer showroom area.
Josh Spence, listed as a contact for the applicant, couldn’t be reached for comment.
“Approximately 10 years ago, the site was cleared for development,” states a letter that’s part of the application. “Since then, it has not been touched. During that time frame, the surrounding area has been developed for commercial use.”
Construction is taking place next door on property that was approved earlier this year for a Popeyes fast-food restaurant. That development is at Cedar Ridge Drive, near the entrance to Walden at Oakwood apartments.
