Whitmire, Wayne promoted at Community Bank & Trust
J. Michael Whitmire has been named chief executive officer of Community Bank & Trust-Northeast Georgia, Community Bankshares Inc.'s lead bank with offices in 10 Northeast Georgia counties.

Whitmire joined Community Bankshares in 2008. In his new role, he will oversee the day-to-day operations of the company's 36 banking centers in Northeast Georgia.

Whitmire has more than 30 years of banking experience and has served leadership roles in the community with the United Way, Elachee Nature Science Center and the Northeast Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

"With his extensive work experience in and around Northeast Georgia and his involvement in both civic and church activities, we are certain that Mike can bring new and valuable guidance to our team," said Charles M. Miller, president and chief executive officer of Community Bankshares.

"Mike has a distinguished record of service to the financial services industry in North Georgia. He is highly respected in banking circles and, with his leadership experience, we know that he will most certainly expand his role in the management of our corporation," he concluded.

A native of Greenville, S.C., Whitmire earned his undergraduate degree in economics from Wofford College and his Masters degree in business administration and finance from the University of Georgia.

He and his wife, Becky, have three children.

Miller also announced that J. Scott Wayne has been named division president for Hall and Barrow Counties, filling Whitmire's previous post.

Wayne, a native of Hall County, has 24 years of banking experience. He earned his BBA degree in banking and finance from the University of Georgia and recently served as president of the Bank of Athens.

"Scott Wayne has an exceptional background and invaluable experience in several Northeast Georgia communities," Miller continued, "his knowledge and talents can certainly assist our corporation as we develop our franchise in the Hall and Barrow markets."

Wayne and his wife, Jill, have one daughter.

Gainesville's Dixon earns top dentistry award
Brad Dixon of Gainesville has received Mastership Award during the Academy of General Dentistry's convocation ceremony recognizing excellence in dental education.

The event was held July 11 in Baltimore, Md. Dixon was one of more than 150 award recipients.

The Mastership Award is the highest honor given by AGD and signifies the highest criteria for professional excellence. To earn it, Dixon completed 1,100 hours of continuing dental education in the 16 disciplines of dentistry, including 400 hours dedicated to hands-on skills and techniques.

"The AGD is proud to honor Dr. Dixon for his commitment to continuing education and dedication to providing his patients with exceptional oral health care," AGD President David F. Halpern said. "Dr. Dixon has gone above and beyond his professional responsibilities, distinguishing himself amongst his peers and exemplifying his allegiance to the dental community."
Dixon graduated from Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry in 1984.

He and his wife, Sherri, have two children.

Steele chosen national sales manager for GTO Inc.
GTO 2000 Inc. Transportation and Logistics Services of Gainesville recently hired Sheryll Steele as national sales manager.

Steele has nearly 18 years of experience in the transportation and logistical sales solutions industry. She is based in the Nashville, Tenn., area.

"We welcome Sheryll on board and feel she will complement our existing services array for our customers, carriers and office network" GTO President Gregg Gordon said.
