Gene Bobo, who is credited with inventing modern day hosiery and was heavily involved in the local Boy Scouts, died on Wednesday.He was 94. Bobo died of natural causes, his family said.Bobo served as a scoutmaster of Troop 26 at First Baptist Church of Gainesville from 1939 to 1957. He continued to serve as a member for the Northeast Georgia Council and was awarded the Silver Good Shepherd award.Bobo, with help from Claude Bagwell, also from Gainesville, developed yarns for a sheer seamless hosiery product to replace the heavier nylons.
