Three people, including two teens, were charged with trying to rob a taxi driver at gunpoint early Tuesday, Gainesville police said.

Lt. Carol Martin said the victim was sitting in his taxi at the Georgia Mountains Center parking lot on Main Street at about 5 a.m. Tuesday when a man approached to ask for directions.

When the taxi driver lowered his window, a pistol was pointed at him and he was ordered to turn over his money, police said.

While the gun was pointed at the man, another taxi pulled into the parking lot, police said. The would-be robber struck the victim in the side of the head with the handgun and ran off, Martin said.

The second taxi driver saw the man being picked up by a maroon car, police said.

A lookout for the car was posted and police made a traffic stop at the corner of Browns Bridge Road and Queen City Parkway. Three Gainesville men were arrested as a result of the stop.

Terrell Martin, 18, was charged with attempted armed robbery, aggravated assault, battery and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Justin Lindsay, 17, was charged with attempted armed robbery and driving with a suspended license.

Maurice Perry, 24, was charged with attempted armed robbery.

The victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The three suspects remain in the Hall County jail.
