Lanier Charter Career Academy teacher Kim Nix was awarded the Outstanding Trade and Industrial Education Student Award on April 23 at Georgia State University.
University faculty choose the winner based on academic achievement, teaching expertise, community service and a commitment to excellence.
Kim has been in the cosmetology industry for more than 10 years and is in her second year of teaching at Lanier.
“I would not be where I am today without the teachers I had in high school,” Kim said. “They gave me the confidence that I lacked to help me believe in myself and know that I have control over my successes. I decided I did not want to be trapped in a life I was subjected to as a child. My outlook on life was forever changed and I pursued cosmetology immediately after high school.”
