Edward L. and Ann Ash Hartness of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter Jennifer Erin Hartness to Andrew Coleman Medlyn, son of Ralph William and Constance M. Medlyn of Durham, N.C.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Eloise Ash of Gainesville, the late James A. Ash, Julie Hartness of Kennesaw and the late Edgar C. Hartness.

She is a 1995 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 1999 from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., with a bachelor's degree in journalism. She is employed as a television reporter with WRAL-TV in Raleigh, N.C.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Mary Ethel Coleman Milonas of Madison, Miss., the late George Thomas Milonas and the late Ralph William and Marion Elizabeth Medlyn.

He is a 1993 graduate of Northern High School in Durham, N.C. He graduated in 1997 from Furman University in Greenville, S.C, with a bachelor's degree in economics. He received a master's degree in city and regional planning in 1999 at Clemson University in Clemson, S.C. He is employed as a director of planning with Measurement Durham LLC in Durham, N.C.

The couple plan to wed March 28, 2009, at Crane Cottage at the Jekyll Island Club on Jekyll Island.
