Garden art, whimsical birdhouses and unique art items will highlight Elachee’s biggest fundraising event of the spring season — Flights of Fancy.

“This is the best year we’ve ever had,” said Jane White, chairwoman of the event and local veterinarian. “We’ve got a plow that we’ve made into a planter, we’ve got some beautiful truly antique farm implements that we’ve converted. Then we’ve got a lot of beautiful original art.”

Proceeds from Flights of Fancy will fund Elachee’s environmental education programs and conservation efforts in Chicopee Woods.

“John Garner’s farm in North Hall had a log cabin on it, and they let me look in the log cabin — they had used it to store farm equipment — so we’ve gotten several incredible antique farm implements,” White said. “One is an seeder, that you put fertilizer and seeds in, it’s wood, it’s from the Cole Manufacturing Company and it even has a wooden wheel and it’s probably from the early 1900s.”

White said there will be about 150 items between the silent and live auctions, in all price ranges. Frank Norton will serve as the auctioneer.

There also will be stained glass, live plants and original Frank Norton paintings and planters.

The casual event, which Elachee expects to draw about 175 people, will include a light dinner from Rico’s World Kitchen, beverage bar and entertainment from Bruce Adams. “We prefer you call ahead so we know for the caterer,” White said. “But we certainly won’t turn you away.”
