Dawsonville's Art in the Garden on Saturday features plants and handmade crafts.

Still looking for that perfect Mother's Day gift? Head over to Dawsonville this weekend for the seventh annual Art in the Garden Festival, where there's something for nearly every mom's taste.

The event features handmade soaps, quilts and jewelry, home-grown plants and even plant pots the kids can assemble themselves, said Nancy King, the festival's director.

"It's a fundraiser for the Bowen Center for the Arts ... It's a very important fundraiser," King said of the event, which starts at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Dawsonville Municipal complex, six miles past Ga. 400 on Ga. 53.

In all, there will be more than 50 vendors, along with demonstrations on water conservation and other gardening techniques.

King said the new Dawson County Humane Society will also be on hand to host a dog fashion show, and anyone is invited to enter with their pooch's best costume. The Humane Society will also do a dog agility demonstration.

For gardening enthusiasts who might have missed the Hall County Master Gardeners' annual Garden Expo, King said this is a good chance to pick up some plants you might have missed - and find some good art in the process, too.

"The biggest thing for Gainesville is they run that big Garden Expo, and for people who missed that, this is kind of like it, only it's not 100 percent plants," King said. "We have gifts you can give for Mother's Day.

And because the event is adjacent to the Racing Hall of Fame and Museum, King said that offers a variety of things to do.

"The nice thing is there's something for even the men to do, because they can go look at the cars."
