The game is afoot in Gainesville with Sherlock Holmes and his trusty friend, Dr. John Watson.

“Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure” can be seen on stage at 7 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, in the Cervantes Theatre at Riverside Military Academy, 2001 Riverside Drive, Gainesville.

The free production is based on the original 1899 play by William Gillette and author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It was adapted for the stage by Steven Dietz and directed by Mike Smith.

In the classic adventure, Holmes seeks to wind down his career through the arrest of Professor James Moriarty. He and Watson are drawn into a blackmail case involving a king and a world-renowned opera singer that puts them on a collision course with Holmes’ greatest enemy.

“Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure” is a spirited, fast-moving and thoroughly theatrical adaptation that draws Holmes and Watson into a mystery filled with danger, intrigue, wit, romance and suspense.
