Who needs the Peach Drop when you can celebrate this New Year's Eve here at home in honor of man's best friend?

\JB Jams will host its third annual New Year's Eve "Chicken Drop" party benefitting Hall County's Humane Society.

Proceeds will go to support animals that need a new home, help fund education initiatives at the shelter, the spay and neuter center and wellness center, said Julie Edwards, director of development and marketing at the Society.

The celebration begins at 8:30 p.m. at the Gainesville Civic Center where JB Jams will provide hats, noisemakers and party favors as well as dance music from all eras.

A cash bar with drink specials will be offered along with door prizes and a raffle.

When the clock strikes midnight, "Chuck the Chicken" will be dropped followed by a champagne toast amid a cascade of balloons.

Scott's on the Square will cater a breakfast buffet served immediately following Chuck's drop.

Party goers are encouraged to bring food or toy donations for the Society's sheltered animals. The Humane Society will have a truck on site to collect donations.

"This is an awesome opportunity to celebrate the New Year and know that the money you're spending to have a good time is also going to help animals in need," Edwards said.
