The streets of downtown Flowery Branch will welcome back classic cars and the taste of chili this weekend.
The 12th annual Flowery Branch Car Show and Chili Cook-off, as well as the eighth annual Bugs at the Branch car show featuring Volkswagen models, is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the depot on Main Street.
Event organizer Steve Soucie said having the car shows in the midst of downtown rather than a parking lot is a draw.
“It’s kind of a unique environment for a car show,” Soucie said.
Featuring both kinds of car shows and the chili for tasting makes it like three events in one, Soucie said. And this year, the Flowery Branch Police, Hall County Fire Services and the Hall County Sheriff’s Office will be part of a new wrinkle as the show adds a “touch a truck” element.
Craft vendors, bouncy houses, ice cream, snow cones and food will all be available.
Soucie said West Hall High wrestling team will be selling hamburgers and hot dogs out of its “Spartan Cafe,” and Lazy Bear BBQ will also be on hand in addition to the Main Street vendors.
“There’s a lot to do,” Soucie said. “It’s geared for the whole family.”
For the classic car show, all makes and models are welcome in current year to Model T. In the Volkswagen show, water-cooled and air-cooled models are welcome in current year and older.
There is an entry fee of $20 for car show contestants. Cash prizes of $100 are available for best of show in both the classic car and VW events.
A $100 prize is also on the line for best tasting in the chili cook-off, with a $50 prize for best tasting in the chili junior division.
The event’s rain date is Sept. 20.
