The members of the Quinlan Visual Arts Center are serving up a fresh batch of creativity for the 63rd Annual Quinlan Members' Exhibition, which opens with a reception, 5:30 p.m. today at the center.

Each member is invited to submit up to two pieces for the show, which includes works by artists both amateur and professional.

"It just showcases ... this community and our members," said Quinlan Assistant Director Paula Lindner.

"It's one of our most colorful shows of the year."

More than 280 members submitted pieces for the exhibit, including landscapes, seascapes, abstracts and self portraits, and a gallery's worth of photography, Lindner said.

Judging the show this year will be Bruce Bobick, professor and Chairman Emeritus at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton.

Kenny Lambert, a "concert master" who is a member of the Gainesville Symphony Orchestra, will perform at the reception, which also will include light hors d'oeuvres and an awards ceremony.

Lindner said many members exhibit their work for the first time at the Members' Exhibition.

"It takes a lot of courage for folks that want to do it for the first time," she said.

Professional artists exhibiting work in the show will include Jack Kurvis and Rosemary Dodd.
