Got a good golf swing? Putt for the pets at the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia's 23rd annual Dog Day Afternoon golf tournament, Oct. 11 at the Chattahoochee Golf Course. Registration begins at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.

"The golf tournament is our longest running and most successful fundraiser, and is an event that our supporters look forward to each year," says Rick Aiken, president of HSNEGA. "Our goal for 2010 is $40,000, and with the community's support, I am confident we will reach our goal, which will help us continue to provide low-cost services in the community as well as support the animals in our care until they are adopted."

All registered players also will receive a catered lunch from Longstreet Cafe and enjoy a closing reception at the end of play, including awards for the top three teams (net and gross).

Entry fee is $125 per player and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, prizes and a "doggie bag" full of treats.

Tournament format is Lauderdale, four players per team. Handicaps are determined by adding each team's handicap together and dividing by 10. Team handicap will then be deducted from the gross score to determine the team's net score.
