High school basketball: Cherokee Bluff boys roll past North Hall in Lanierland opener

Cherokee Bluff freshman Cade Simmons knocked down a 3-pointer from just inside halfcourt to make their lead 18 points at the third quarter buzzer as part of a 62-48 win against North Hall to open the Lanierland on Friday at East Hall.. 

The Bears (8-5) pulled ahead with a 10-0 run early in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 15 points on a Simmons 3-pointer from the side midway through the period, then again two minutes later when Dre Raven went to the free throw line and hit 2 of 3 shots. 

Simmons’ first 3-pointer came late in the third quarter, making the score 33-24 with a minute remaining before the halftime break. 

Griffin Neville finished with a game-high 22 points for Cherokee Bluff, while Simmons put in 14. 

North Hall (9-4) was led by Luke Gunter’s 20 points, while Clark Howell finished with 17.

With the win, the Bears will play in the Lanierland semifinals at 8 p.m. Saturday at Johnson.
