Cherokee Bluff’s turnovers were too much to overcome in a 21-19 loss to Cedar Shoals on Thursday at Yonah Field.

Trailing by two points midway through the fourth quarter, the Bears threw a critical interception that Cedar Shoals took back to the 35.

Cherokee Bluff (2-4, 2-2 Region 8-4A) turned it over four times, a week after losing a 14-12 heartbreaker against North Hall.

Still, the Bears put up a good fight in the second half.

Cherokee Bluff’s Landon Kemp hit Carlos Marlow on a double pass for a 36-yard touchdown with 5:30 left to play, bringing it back to a 21-19 hole.

Cedar Shoals made it a two-possession game early in the fourth quarter with Devin Hester’s 59-yard catch and run for the score to go ahead 21-12.

In the third quarter, Perry Haynes barreled into the end zone, which drew the Bears back to within 14-12 after a failed 2-point try.

Earlier in the drive, senior Jhace Justice had a clutch 40-yard grab from quarterback Asher Wilson.

In the first quarter, Connor Griffin punched it in from the 1, giving the Bears an early 6-0 edge.

Haynes had a game-high 87 rushing yards for the Bears.

Up next, Cherokee Bluff visits East Forsyth on Oct. 7 in Gainesville.
