Letter: Counties other than Hall allow seniors to exempt taxes earlier

Blaming senior discounts and exemptions from school taxes as Hall County’s primary cause of money woes has caused alarm for seniors who live here. We paid the school tax until age 72, before the age was lowered to 70, per my request to our state representative.

Other counties treat their seniors better with exemptions from school tax at age 65. Because it was our choice to pay private school tuition for our children, we cannot complain about paying school taxes during those years. However, it has been a nice break for the past nine years to have the school tax exemption.

With our fixed income, we are among other seniors allowed to “get by” in our retirement years. Please reconsider your decision to eliminate the senior school tax exemption.
