Update, July 27: Hall County expects the washout on Willie Robinson Road to be repaired in about three weeks, after heavy rain caused the county to close the road on July 20, Hall County Public Information Officer Katie Crumley wrote in a statement Tuesday July 27.
Hall County Engineering created a repair design and gave Simpson Trucking and Grading notice to proceed with repairs Tuesday.
The project budget is $237,000, which includes contingency funds in case the project goes over initial cost estimates, Crumley wrote, and the emergency purchase will go before the Hall County Board of Commissioners at their next voting meeting, which is planned for Aug. 12.
Bill Nash, the county’s assistant director of public works, wrote in an email, the washout was caused by Latham Creek quickly rising above the roadbed after heavy rains.
“In this case, the water scoured the shoulder area and weakened the roadway until failure,” Nash wrote. “Fortunately, the existing pipe was not damaged and will be utilized as part of the road rebuild.”
