Traffic delays may be in store as a vegetation removal project gets underway this spring on Interstate 985 at the Hall-Gwinnett County line.

Single-lane closures are set by April 16, with a completion date of Nov. 12, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Closures will be permitted 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and will take place in northbound and southbound lanes between Exit 4 in Buford/Gwinnett and just north of Exit 8 in Buford/Hall.

Crews will remove trees and other vegetation from the shoulders of I-985.

“All trees less than 50 feet from the shoulder will be removed in order to enhance safety for the traveling public,” a DOT press release says.

Extensive tree clearing taking place in 2019 as part of the DOT’s vegetation management program also involved lane closures.
