Rain has delayed opening of the new Boling Bridge on Dawsonville Highway/Ga. 53 at the Hall-Forsyth County border.
“Crews will continue to evaluate the weather and reschedule this (traffic) shift,” a Georgia Department of Transportation press release states.
The $19.7 million bridge, which crosses the Chestatee River, flowing into Lake Lanier, had been set to open to traffic at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2.
Opening the new bridge to traffic won’t mean work is complete, the DOT has said.
Final asphalt topping will be required, along with additional grading to each side of the new approaches.
The completion date for this project is March 2019, which includes time for tearing down the green truss structure.
The project was awarded to Scott Bridge Company Inc. in March 2016.
One of the project’s more unique features is two 65-foot nest platforms that serve as homes for ospreys, which used to build nests on top of the old bridge. Ospreys began taking advantage of the new platforms in March.
