The Gainesville school board voted Thursday to OK a document that endorses proceeding with the design of a new fieldhouse at Bobby Gruhn Stadium, home of Gainesville High School’s football team.
The document, a "memorandum of understanding," would assert that before construction begins and the system invests its financial share in the project — some $750,000 to $1 million — the building should be part of a lease agreement with city park officials.
The school system and park officials have a lease agreement on other properties that expires in 2009, board attorney Phil Hartley told the City Board of Education.
The agreement could end up with an addendum that includes the fieldhouse and extends the expiration date, Hartley said. "We need to make crystal clear that this fieldhouse is part of that lease agreement."
