Hall County officials confirmed Thursday that a 25-year-old woman found Wednesday night in Lake Lanier died as a result of drowning.

Hall County Coroner Marion Merck identified the woman as Mary Elizabeth Davidson. According to the Hall County Sheriff's Office, she resides in Cumming.

Officials were notified of Davidson's disappearance about 9:15 p.m. after she was last seen on a dock on Samoa Way in Buford. Members of the Hall County Fire Department recovered her body from the water around 10 p.m.

Col. Jeff Strickland, sheriff's office's chief deputy, said foul play is not suspected.

The incident follows a rash of drownings in mid-July that had since waned.
