Here are details of Oakwood City Council’s hearing on whether to revoke La Parilla’s alcohol license:
When: 6 p.m. Monday
Where: City Hall, 4035 Walnut Circle

Oakwood City Council will consider Monday whether to revoke the alcohol license of one of the city’s busiest eateries, La Parrilla Mexican restaurant.
The matter stems from a Cinco de Mayo celebration in which alcohol was served outside the restaurant, which is in the Robson Crossing Shopping Center off Atlanta and Winder highways.
La Parrilla is part of a chain of 15 restaurants spanning metro Atlanta.
The hearing is set for 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 4035 Walnut Circle.
City officials couldn’t be reached for comment Wednesday, but according to a public notice on the issue, the city will consider pulling the restaurant’s annual license for the sale of distilled spirits and malt beverages and its wine license.
The notice further alleges that La Parrilla violated city law governing the distribution and sale of distilled spirits.
The 13-year-old law, which has been tweaked several times over the years, says that license holders subject to revocation will be given the opportunity to show why the license shouldn’t be pulled.
"What really happened was a big misunderstanding on our behalf," said Jorge Barreto, the restaurant’s general manager. "We did, in a very innocent way, make a mistake."
He added, without going into detail, that restaurant officials have "taken measures with our company and all of our employees to prevent this from happening again."
"We’re just going to give our big apologies to the city and (say) it was an innocent mistake," Barreto said.
"We’ve been in business at this location for over 13 years — we’re a company that won’t compromise our name for a day of selling alcohol outside."
The city’s ordinance says the city can revoke or suspend a license based on many factors, including "any conduct on the part of the licensee ... contrary to the public welfare, safety, health or morals."
Much of the law pertains to selling to minors, hours and days alcohol can be sold and excise taxes.
