Sept. 3 update: A hotel off Jesse Jewell Parkway and Crescent Drive at Interstate 985 was approved Tuesday, Sept. 3, by the Hall County Planning Commission.

The developer, however, may need to jump through more government hoops if it wants to see the hotel get off the ground.

While the hotel itself doesn’t require further approval from the Hall County Board of Commissioners, the developer may have to go through Gainesville to get sewer access, planning board Chairman Chris Braswell told the developer.

And that “may or may not require you to annex into the city,” he said. “And if the property is annexed into the city, (Crescent Drive at the site) is still in Hall County, so prior approval to access the property is still going to need to be obtained from Hall County.”

Previous story: A 123-room Woodspring Signature Suites Extended Stay Hotel is being proposed off Jesse Jewell Parkway at Interstate 985.

WS Hotels LLC is seeking to develop the hotel, along with a 7,500-square-foot shopping center, on 5.5 acres east of Crescent Drive.

“The property owners indicate that Dunkin Donuts is currently interested in the retail space for a drive-thru restaurant,” according to a Hall County staff report.

The proposal is set to go before the Hall County Planning Commission on Sept. 3.

The vacant property is already zoned for highway business, and the request “is consistent with the comprehensive (land-use) plan,” the report states.

The Woodspring hotel “is intended for economy-minded business travelers, providing them with all of the amenities of a hotel, without a swimming pool and breakfast/kitchen operations,” according to WS Hotels.

“This development will be a welcome addition to the commercial district underway and growing,” owner Moe Hasni said in an application to the county.

The New Holland area, particularly between Limestone Parkway and I-985, is growing rapidly. Construction is underway on several projects.

Hall County planners are recommending approval of the project.
