Councilwoman Juli Clay was sworn in Tuesday, Jan. 7, to the Gainesville City Council for her first term. Clay, assistant vice president of executive programs at Brenau University, earned 72.6% of the vote in November’s election. She has filled the Ward 5 seat, previously held by Ruth Bruner, who decided to retire after 16 years on the Council.

Clay said she was looking forward to serving in the role.

“I would also like to thank the community for trusting me to serve as a City Council member,” Clay said. “I’m certainly honored and humbled by this position, and I’m really looking forward to working with the city staff and other council members to continue the good work of the previous Council.”

Council members Barbara Brooks and Zack Thompson were also sworn in Tuesday, both for their second terms.
