Jamie P. Green has been hired as the new principal of Gainesville High School, and Misty Freeman has been promoted from an interim position to principal of Gainesville Middle School.
The Gainesville City School System Board of Education approved the new hires for the high school and middle school at a Thursday, March 29, meeting.
Green will take over effective July 1, upon the retirement of current Principal Tom Smith.
Green currently serves as the principal and dean of instruction at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville.
“Mr. Green’s No.1 focus is students, and he will continue to raise the bar at GHS while serving our Red Elephant family,” Gainesville City School System Superintendent Jeremy Williams told The Times. “Whether working in inner-city Boston or transforming the lives of young boys at Riverside, Mr. Green is an added value to our students and families. I look forward to leading alongside him.”
Freeman has served as the interim principal for GMS since Nov. 1, after the resignation of previous Principal Rose Prejean-Harris. She will lose the interim title and become principal effective immediately.
“Mrs. Freeman was placed into a difficult position taking over as interim as half of the administrative team changed since last school year,” Williams said. “Our priority is to provide stability to the students and employees as we refocus services to our students. She cares for our children, and now she has the sole position to take GMS to new heights.”
