The Department of Early Care and Learning is investigating a Gainesville day care after a child was found walking on the median of Dawsonville Highway earlier this week.

The state agency is working an open case involving Gainesville Academy day care after an incident Tuesday morning.

DECAL Chief Communications Officer Reg Griffin declined to comment on the allegation or the case.

“All I can say at this point is this is an open investigation we have been working since Wednesday,” Griffin said.

Gainesville Police officers responded Tuesday to reports of a child walking on the median of Dawsonville Highway. Two witnesses are listed in the police report.

“It was determined that the child had walked out of the business unattended,” according to the police report.

An attempt to reach a representative from Gainesville Academy for comment was unsuccessful.
