Wayne Farms' plant in Oakwood reached a milestone in safety when employees at the location worked more than 750,000 hours without a lost-time accident.

The hours accumulated since June 2003, meaning that no employee has missed work due to an injury suffered on the job in five years.

Plant manager Gerald Kowalke awarded all employees a commemorative safety vest or jacket complete with a special logo.

"Wayne Farms has long been an industry leader in workplace safety," said Kowalke. "This accomplishment is a direct result of not only a quality safety program, but also continued cooperation and diligence on the part of all of our employees."

The Oakwood facility is a 43,000-square-foot further-processing plant for poultry and has been owned and operated by Wayne Farms since 1985.
