The world famous words “what’ll ya have” will echo through north Georgia as Varsity Jr. opens in Dawsonville.

John Browne, vice president for the Atlanta-based Varsity, said the 4,550-square-foot restaurant is set to open today.
Originally planned to be open by the end of last year, weather and construction issues caused the delay.

Browne did not say what time crews will open the doors, though the Lindberg restaurant, which closed in August and prompted construction of the Dawsonville location, was open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.

The popular restaurant will be a major attraction for shoppers and will draw customers from the entire region, according to Charlie Auvermann, director of the Development Authority of Dawson County.

“The Varsity is not just an Atlanta icon; it is a Georgia tradition,” he said. “We’ve had several restaurant chains seriously look at property along Ga. 400, and I believe the Varsity has played a role in that.”

The restaurant serves lunch and dinner and is world-renowned for its signature chili dogs, onion rings and Frosted Orange drink.

The Varsity has owned the land in Dawsonville, located north of Applebee’s and between Advance Auto Parts and the Outside World, for almost five years.

The restaurant will be accessible from Carlisle Road and Ga. 400.
