David, Rich join Bates, Carter & Co.
Dustin David has joined the staff of Bates, Carter & Co. as a staff accountant in the government and commercial audit departments.
David received his undergraduate degree in accounting from North Georgia College and State University in 2006. He is currently preparing for the CPA exam. While at North Georgia, he was a member of the basketball team and an All-Conference selection in 2004 and 2005. He was also an Academic All-American in 2005 and Academic All-District in 2007.
Caleb Rich is a summer intern for a second year at Bates, Carter & Co. He is a North Hall High School graduate and current student at the J.M. Tull School of Accounting of the University of Georgia. He will be pursuing a master's degree following graduation in December.
New officers named for Smithgall Humane Society
The Charles Smithgall Humane Society Board of Directors has elected new officers for 2008-2009. They are Chris Blauvelt, president; Paul Veen, vice president; Susan Jamison, secretary; and Karen Grogan, treasurer.
The Charles Smithgall Humane Society in White County is a nonprofit membership organization with the mission to shelter and find safe homes for unwanted, abandoned, neglected and abused animals, to reduce pet overpopulation, cruelty and neglect, to teach and encourage responsible pet ownership and to advocate animal welfare.
Gaskins joins The Peoples Bank in Braselton
The Peoples Bank has announced the hiring of Steve Gaskins as a vice president and commercial lender with the Braselton office.
Gaskins has more than 10 years of banking experience in commercial lending, portfolio management and business development.
"We are excited about the business and commercial banking opportunities in Hall and Jackson counties," said Christopher B. Maddox, chief executive officer and president of The Peoples Bank. "Steve's experience in this area will help solidify The Peoples Bank as the bank for businesses and business owners in this community."
Gaskins holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from The College of Charleston. He is scheduled to graduate from the Georgia Bankers Association-sponsored Georgia Banking School in Athens in 2010.
Gaines is named to State Board of Cosmetology
James S. "Slatz" Gaines of Flowery Branch has been named by Gov. Sonny Perdue to the State Board of Cosmetology.
Gaines, 74, has been a professional hairdresser for more than 47 years and has owned multiple salons around the Atlanta area. He is a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church and the National Hairdressers Association and a former member of Intercoiffure America-Canada.
