Authorities have a suspect in a series of area fires Wednesday morning.

Gainesville and Hall County fire officials along with law enforcement are investigating a car fire in the parking lot of Wal-Mart on Shallowford Road, a blaze at an abandoned house blocks away from the Wal-Mart and a dumpster fire at the Chick-fil-A restaurant on Shallowford.

“All the fires appear to be suspicious in nature and are being treated as an act of arson,” stated a press release issued Friday morning.

The car and vacant house were a total loss.

Gainesville Police spokesman Kevin Holbrook said names of any suspects will not be released until charges are filed, if they are filed.

“We are fortunate in the fact that no persons were injured during these fires,” Holbrook said. “We do take these crimes very seriously.”
