If you’ve been wondering about something in your community, Ask The Times is your place to get answers. The following question was submitted by a reader and answered through the efforts of our news staff.

What’s the status of putting in a driveway at the Sam’s Club and Walmart from Thurmon Tanner Parkway in Oakwood?

Stan Brown, Oakwood’s city manager, said the ball is in Walmart corporate’s court.

Over the past decade, he said the plans for adding another entrance into Sam’s Club and Walmart Supercenter from Thurmon Tanner Parkway have remained stagnant.

The proposed access point was aimed to help cut down on the traffic around the shopping area’s Mundy Mill Road entrance.

The City of Oakwood received a concept design for the driveway and approved the access 10 years ago.

Brown said he has kept in contact with three different Walmart corporate real estate representatives over the years. However, no progress has ensued from their conversations.

“To this point, we’ve never had anybody get back with us after the initial contact,” Brown said. “We would like to see them take advantage of that.”

For now, he’s playing the waiting game.

“There’s no doubt that having the access would relieve congestion on Mundy Mill Road,” Brown said. “In the meantime, we’ll have to work with what we have.”
